Board of Referee Guidelines

Role of a Referee

Before you accept or decline an invitation to review an article, consider the following questions:
• Does the research article match your area of specialization? Only accept if you feel you can provide a high quality review.
• Do you have a potential conflict of interest?
• Do you have time? Before you accept, make sure you can meet the deadline.
If you accept, you must treat the materials you receive as confidential documents. This means you cannot share them with anyone without prior authorization from the editor. Since the peer review is confidential process, you must not share the information about the review with anyone without the permission from the editor in chief.

Review report

Your review should help the editor in chief to decide whether to publish the article or not. Giving your overall opinion and general observations on the article is essential. You should not include any personal remarks or personal details including your name.
1. You should explain and support your judgment so that both editor in chief and the author(s) are able to fully understand the reasoning behind your comments. You should indicate whether your comments are your own opinion or are reflected by the data.
2. Give specific comments and suggestions, including about the template, title, abstract, introduction, graphical abstracts, statistical errors, results, conclusion / discussion, language and references.
3. If you suspect plagiarism, or have any other ethical concerns indicate the issue to the editor in chief providing as much detail as possible.

Recommendation on the article

When you give a recommendation on the article it is worth considering the categories the editor in chief mostly uses to classify the article:
Reject - Explain the reason in report
Accept without revision
Revise - Either major or minor (Explain the revision that is required and indicate to the editor in chief whether or not you would like to review the revised article).

THE FINAL DECISION

The editor in chief ultimately decides whether to accept or reject the article. The editor will weigh all views and may call for a third opinion or ask the author for a revised paper before making a decision.
